iPath is an open source framework
for implementing telehealth applications. Since it is developed
mainly at a pathology department, there is a slight focus
on telepathology.
At the core is the open source iPath-Server,
an extensible telemedicine database sever with a web based
interface. The iPath Server provides something like a medical
discussion forum, where cases can be easily presented to others,
discussed and commented within dedicated user groups.
As iPath is a very flexible system there are many different
possibilities of using it.
Discuss difficult cases within dedicated user groups.
Collect different information of one cases from different
sources.
Conenct your microscope to the Internet and share it with
others.
Provide feedback to senders of specimen by presenting them
images of important findings.
and many others ...
Getting started
1. Regsiter with an existing discussion group:
The easiest way for starting is to join an existing discussion/consultation
group. Please check the group list and contact the moderator
of any group you would like to join.
2. Start your own group:
If you should prefer to start your own group, please register
with our main server and contact the site administrator.
Once your group is open, it is up to you to find and add
other user for your group, but the techinical adminitration
is very simple.
3. Install your own iPath-Server
With this option you have the complete freedom on what you
want to do with your own server. However, to install your
own server you need someone with good skills in installing
and maintaining a www-server.
The system is developed and tested under Linux with Apache/PHP
and Postgres-SQL. But it is also running under Windows with
IIS and MySQL database, Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle should
work as well.
If you feel unsure, please contact the developers of iPath
for help in deciding what is a good option for you.
